Steve and Ana were involved in a volunteer trip with Transafrika, a Colorado based non-profit organization, delivering books to schools and medical supplies to clinics and surveying sites to build and improve schools. Castle Rock High Noon Rotary Club and "Crutches4Africa" are also co-supporters of projects that Steve and Ana are working on. Best meal: The best meal is always the one which is most authentic. Kenyans prefer "Ugali" nicknamed "African Cake" which is made from maize or other starch into a doughy ball. One uses their hands to dip the Ugali into a stew of beef or goat and a sauce. Best deal: Becoming friends with someone in the area and staying with them in a traditional Kenyan home. Best time to go: Because it is right on the equator, the temperature if very consistent. Check ahead to avoid the 2 rainy seasons. Jan - Mar are typically driest and best for those who want to trek or climb Mt Kenya or Mt Kilimanjaro. Best travel tip: Do a safari tour! It is unforgettable to see lions, cheetah, leopards, baby elephants or rhino in their own free environment.

This is a beautiful place to sit and people-watch or read a book, as many Parisians do during lunch and at the end of the day. Best meal: Lunch at L�As du Falafel in the Marais district. Excellent fresh falafels with great service. Best deal: Crepes made fresh in storefronts in St Germain area on the Left Bank, baguette sandwiches made fresh to order in any boulangarie crowded with locals at lunchtime, and delicious scoops of glace Berthillon on Ile St-Louis, connected by bridge to Ile de le Cite. Best time to go: Early spring or fall when the weather is moderate, but be prepared for occasional rain. Best travel tip: If you like to walk, put on some comfortable shoes and hit the sidewalks. You can easily see most of this fascinating city by foot. But a few euros will buy a Metro pass that�s good for multiple days and will get you anywhere in Paris you want to go.

The entrance fee seems a little steep, but they had a great discount on tickets with a special internet promotion they were running. Such promotions are worth looking for. Best time to go: The autumn leaf colors are breathtaking. Hitting the peak color of the leaves may be tricky depending on conditions and weather, but the consensus is the best bet is mid to late October . Best travel tip: The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles. Rent a car and take several days with short daily legs along the winding parkway, leaving plenty of time to visit historic sites and natural wonders. On the last day, use the interstate highway to return to the starting point to keep the car rental cost to a minimum.

Best deal:Grocery shopping at a local grocer. It's much less expensive than hotel carry outs. Most labels are in Dutch, so it's fun to guess whether it's crackers or cookes. Be adventuresome. Best time to go:We went in September. Anytime of the year it fine if you like warm and sunny. Best travel tip:The locals are very friendly. Talk to them and learn more about the island.

This is the home of the famous wild stallion Cloud, chronicled for the past 15 years in the PBS "Nature" program. Best meal: Juicy brats cooked over an open campfire on the wild horse range. If you're less adventurous, try an authentic Wyoming western meal at the Cowtown Cafe in nearby Cowley, WY. Best deal: Camping on Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range is free, but it is primitive camping (no facilities)-- can't be beat if you love being close to the stars and the sounds and he sights of the wild horses. For the less adventurous, lodging rates at the Horseshoe Bend Motel in Lovell, WY are very reasonable and the owners very helpful. There is no fee to enter the wild horse range. Best time to go: Mid-June to early September. July is peak foaling season, and the high mountain meadows, where the wild horses live and graze, are blanketed in wild lupine. Best travel tip: Be ready to experience the drama of dueling wild stallions, frolicking young colts, and all the action of one of our few remaining wild horse herds. All this occurs in their 500-year-old historic range, which adjoins the Big Horn Canyon National Park. Be prepared to take plenty of photos not only of the horses, but of the spectacular panoramic scenery from the Big Horn Canyon to the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. If you stay in town, allow 2 hours to reach the mountaintop where the horses spend the summer, and the drive is well worth it. The Bridger road or the Crooked Creek Road from Lovell are the best routes, but they both require a 4-wheel drive vehicle with good clearance. The mountaintop is quite flat, so there are plenty of locations for good campsites. Hiking is easy and boundless on the mountaintop, where you will encounter colorful wild horse bands in their natural environment. Best deal: Try to visit Penduka a women's project in Windhoek that enables women from outlying areas to learn skills that can provide income to help support their families. Beautiful batiks, jewerly, embroidery and recycled glass beads that are all made on site are available at very reasonable prices. Best time to go: We saw lots of lions, zebras, giraffes and springbok in April but no elephants. Animals are more visible during the May to October dry season when animals gather where ever water is to be found. Best travel tip: Sights are impressive but widely spaced. Try to find camps that provide transportation to get you to and from the numerous points of interest. The sunsets and sand dunes are spectacular. Flights over the dunes and the Skeleton Coast provide perspectives that are impossible to get from the ground.

Since we had seem the main sites, he added different secondary site for us each week. Super nice guy. Best time to go: Late May or early June. For a fun time try to be in Lisbon for St. Anthony Day. The parade and the festival up in the Alfama are not to be missed. Best travel tip: Rent an apartment even if only for a few days. It is about the same as a hotel, much more comfortable, and "your" place.

On Dun Aenghus

Best meal: Breakfast at the Quay House B&B in Clifden, County Galway. The hardy breakfast ranges from the traditional "full Irish" to daily specials such as Smoked Salmon Scramble, fresh oysters and Eggs Benedict all served in a gorgeous glass conservatory overlooking Clifden Harbour. This is our 3rd trip to Ireland and we wouldn't consider a trip complete without a visit to the gorgeous Quay House run by Paddy and Julia Foyle, possibly Ireland's most gracious hosts. Best deal: Burren Hill Walks in Ballylvaughan, County Clare. for $20 Shane Connolly, a local farmer with degrees in archaeology and local history, leads a 3 hour hike through the Burren, a 10 square mile limestone plateau. This most enlightening and informative walk focuses on the flora, geology and historical sites of the area. Best time to go: We had fantastic weather with just a few showers and only one full day of rain during the 3 middle weeks of July. We have also had nice weather in September when it is much less crowded. Best travel tip: If you are going to Inishmore for only the day, take the Island Ferries from Rossaveel. It is a direct 40 minute trip whereas the ferries departing from Doolin in County Clare stop at all 3 islands and the trip takes almost 2 hours. The Rossaveel ferries are much larger and more comfortable as well. Also The Doolin trip gets shut down more often due to inclement weather and rough sea.

You can buy a pouch for just about $1.00 and snack on it for the entire day. Best time to go:We were in Japan in late July and early August. I would not recommend late summer as it is extremely humid and very hot. Best travel tip:Exchange dollars for yen before you leave. Japan is a cash society. Only large tourist shops take credit cards. If you want to purchase items in small towns have yen.

Best deal: There are over 100 wineries in the Okanagan Valley, but the Gray Monk Estate Winery has free wine tasting and a free winery tour. Best meal: We stayed at the Cherry Tree Bed and Breakfast in Kelowna; the breakfasts (like the house and the hosts) were outstanding! Best time to go: We went in early July � the cherries were ripe, the weather was delightful. Best travel tip: It is a l-o-n-g drive to Kelowna, so think about flying to Vancouver � on the other hand, Idaho was a wonderful drive, and we stayed at Glacier National Park on the way back, so lots to see along the way.

They serve about ten kinds of potatoes, out of the 500 or so that are still cultivated in Peru. Best deal: Baby alpaca yarn costs about 20% here as what you will have to pay in the U.S. It's incredibly soft and warm. Best time to go: In the U.S. summer, when it is the dry season in the central Andes. Best travel tip: Don't pay the price first offered in the markets. Generally the "real" price is 30-50% lower. Even the taxi fares are highly bargainable.

Also, the gelato is fantastic; they have luscious flavors, and two big scoops are only 2 Euros. Best deal: Dresden is famous for its handmade crystal glass, which is said to be on par with Venetian crystal. Best time to go: Summers in Dresden are warm and sunny, but not overly hot. We were there in June, and the temperatures were in the low to mid 70's. Best travel tip: Take a guided tour; there's a lot of history and beautiful architecture that you may miss without a tour guide.

Hiking is free and the scenery on the grounds was breathtaking. Best time to go: June because it's right before the peak season. We were really lucky because the sun was shining everyday. Best travel tip: We rented a car and went and saw whatever, whenever we wanted. Found some great places and people. Getting lost was half the fun!

The service was impeccable, the breakfast amazing, and the rooms luxurious! Best time to go: Early July Best travel tip: Edinburgh Castle has a free ride to the top for mobility impaired visitors. They also have an elevator to the Crown Jewels for the same persons. Just ask at the ticket window, no reservations necessary.
