Best deal: Don't miss touring the Kartchner Caverns. The Caverns are managed by the Arizona State Parks with goal of protecting a beautiful and unique natural resource. The Caverns feature living and growing stalactites and stalagmites. Reservation information is available on the Arizona State Parks website. Best time to go: Between Thankgiving and Christmas. The weather is mild. The hotel, rental car and airfare rates are very reasonable. The Sonoita Wine Trail is made up of 10 winerys about an hour south of Tuscon. The small number of fellow travelers at this time of year allow you to talk one on one with the knowledgeable and friendly winery owners and employees that run the tasting rooms. Best travel tip: If you are planning on visiting several winerys eat a good breakfast and either share wine samples with someone or don't drink all your sample. You can sample as many as 10 wines at some some winerys.

12 comments Charles_Bayley Sun, 19 Dec 2010 10:38:18 -0700 Soakin' our bones in Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. The Resort is located close to Buena Vista, Colorado. They also have a number of other swimming pools and the recent renovations are wonderful. Best meal: Breakfast at the Evergreen Cafe in Buena Vista. Friendly service, good food, and they serve locally brewed coffee. Best deal: Bring a cooler with snacks and picnic items and eat on a lounge chair by the hot springs pool. Also, 2 hours by car from Denver. Best time to go: Any time of year is great but each season offers a different experience. During spring, the snow melt runoff overflows into the creek side pools and they are cold. Water slide pool is open in the summer. Best travel tip: Bring water shoes to climb the rocks and if it's cold bring a warm robe. Best time to go: We were there in September and it was perfect weather, between 75 and 80 degrees and not too crowded. Best travel tip: Don't be afraid of the Metro(subway). We walked about about 16 miles in the first two days. The third day we took the Metro and had no problems For Versailles you need the RER-C train rather than metro.

12 comments darby oneill Sun, 24 Oct 2010 19:04:49 -0600 COLORADO

by: Betsydickson

Description: Names (left to right): Jim and Betsy Dickson, Littleton Berk Thornton and Veronica Radcliffe, Littleton Mark and Deena Bennett, Highlands Ranch Where photo taken: Palisade Colorado, Graystone Vineyards, in the garden next to the tasting rooms Best meal: Red Rose Cafe, 235 Main Street, Palisade. A surprisingly wide selection menu and comfortable price range. Delicious food served in a relaxed atmosphere. Best deal: Most local vineyards have tasting rooms with generous and friendly staff. The warmth of these visits is made special not only in tasting of the "grape" but in the friendly education of the customer. Best time to go: We found the vineyards and Mesa County very colorful in early October. The Colorado sun was warm and golden. The surrounding towns and the Colorado National Monument were not overly crowded Best travel tip: An absolute MUST is a visit to the Colorado National Monument. The circle drive within the park is well worth the trip. Enter from Grand Junction or Fruita. Don't forget your camera, the scenery is breath taking. With several scenic camera stops and a break at the helpful visitor center, plan on at least a two hour visit. The homemade chips and salsa were fresh and fabulous! Great service and beautiful atmosphere. Priced right, too. Best deal: Riding the Metro everywhere. Clean, efficient, and safe transportation all over the city. Parking is nearly non-existent at most of the tourist sites, so this method was easy. We bought the 7 day fast pass- cost $40.00 for unlimited, time unrestricted riding. Best time to go: We attended a conference July 2-4 first, so we didn't have a choice in timing. It was hot and humid, but we managed fine. It would be lovely to see the cherry blossoms in the spring, but we did see a few lone magnolia blossoms hanging on. Best travel tip:Plan, plan, and plan. Check out the websites of the places you want to visit, so much info for you to use. We spent more time than we expected at some of the places, so allow for plenty of reflection and looking. We wanted to see the giant pandas, but not the whole zoo (after all we have an amazing one here in CO), so we went first thing in the morning when it was cooler. We loved DC By Foot tours- very personable, knowledgeable, and entertaining guides. All 19 Smithsonian museums and all monuments are free, but remember the crowds grow with the day. Monuments are beautiful at night, too. You can easily walk miles each day, so remember good shoes. Best meal: If you want crab, go to Tracy's King Crab Shack on the Pier near the cruise ships. It is literally in a shack, but the best crab legs I had while in Alaska. They are fresh and huge. The crab cakes were awesome as well. They also had chowder. Prices are reasonable when compared to Denver. Best deal: Whether you are on a cruise or traveling another way, there are local buses in town for $14 round trip that go to and from the Mendenhall Glacier. Compared to a tour, this will give you plenty of time to hike and see the Glacier vs. a tour where you might get as little as ˝ hour to do a very short hike. We hiked the East Glacier trail – a 2- 2.5 hr hike that goes near a beautiful waterfall that is close to the Glacier, with a closer, spectacular view of the Glacier. It’s a beautiful place and worth the extra time. Also in Juneau is a tram near the pier which climbs the hill to more spectacular views and hiking trails with eagles soaring everywhere and seemingly as abundant as the magpies in CO. It is definitely worth the fee to ride the tram and visit there as well. Finally, Juneau has nice reversible fleece jackets on sale for as little as $20. Best time to go: This trip was in July and was an ideal time to go. It wasn’t as hot as August, but was perfect for hiking, and just cool enough to avoid the mosquitoes. The days were also long and nice to experience with sunsets near 11pm and sun rises around 5am. Best travel tip: Take mosquito spray. Also, take hiking shoes, binoculars, and take your camera everywhere.

3 comments lhladik Tue, 13 Jul 2010 11:32:06 -0600 Denver Audubon Kayakers

by: georgiahart

Description: Names (left to right): Audubon Society of Greater Denver Where photo taken: Niobrara River, Nebraska Best meal: At camp: Pork Tenderloin Best deal: Niobrara River Ranch cabins Best time to go: summer Best travel tip:

3 comments georgiahart Sun, 11 Jul 2010 21:41:59 -0600 Hurricane Ridge

by: josonnenberg

Description: Names (left to right): Cassie and Jordan Sonnenberg of Fort Morgan, Colorado.
